Burrillville, RI, Fire Station Gutted by Fire

March 8, 2025
Wallum Lake's only fire station was destroyed by fire but fire officials believe the apparatus can be salvaged.

A passerby phoned in a fire Friday night that destroyed the Wallum Lake Fire Station in Burrillville.

The fire burned through the roof, collapsing it onto the structure, fire officials said of the only fire station in the district.

“It’s different here because it’s a volunteer fire department,” Pascoag Fire Chief Michael Dexter told WPRI. “There was nobody here when the fire started.”

Dexter said the fire apparatus parked in the single-bay station appeared to still be functional but they will have it inspected.

“It’s truly the members that run this fire department,” Dexter told the television station. “We tried to save as much as we could of their memorabilia.”

The Pascoag Fire Department will cover Wallum Lake's response area until the department is back in operation.

Dexter said the cause of the fire is under investigation and confirmed that nobody was injured in the fire.
